October 10: While the Half-Life 2 source code story has quieted down a bit in the last few days one interesting thing surfaced that may make people thinking of downloading the compiled code think twice before doing so: According a report on HalfLifeSource the code may very well contain either a virus or a trojan. Several reports have surfaced that the Half-Life 2 build being distributed on warez sites and other dark corners of the Internet might be spiked with some nefarious code. While this could just be a cautionary tale spread by the community to keep people from downloading the code, it could also be true - we haven't downloaded the compiled build or the source code for obvious legal and ethical reasons. Some individuals in the community are also saying that there are still clean versions of the software floating about, and question whether or not the person who is responsible for stealing it in the first place really had anything to do with implementing malicious programs into the mix. At the very least, it should be noted as a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of downloading any of the Half-Life 2 material.
